On May 18, 1980, Korea's authoritarian government ordered thousands of its shock troops into the city of Gwangju to suppress pro-democracy protests. When taxi-driver Min-woo sees his friend killed and his family threatened, he decides not to stand by and joins the insurrection. A tremendous critical and commercial success, May 18's horrific retelling of this national tragedy boasted an all-star cast and brought Korean audiences to tears.
